METHODIST CHURCH TARTAN

To commemorate the first time Conference has been held in Scotland, the local arrangements team has commissioned the Methodist Church tartan and registered it with the Scottish Tartans Authority.

The design of the tartan incorporates red and yellow as colours of fire to depict the influence of the Holy Spirit in all that we do. There is also a hint of the clergy tartan and the tartan of the highland city of Inverness, the furthest north John Wesley travelled.

Items of Methodist Church tartan memorabilia available for purchase, both before and during Conference, include a limited edition mug and plate. Ties and lambswool scarves in the Methodist Church tartan will be launched shortly before Conference.

Methodist Church tartan cloth can also be bought at £33 and £39 per metre, each 58" wide. It is a high quality pure wool fabric and can be used to make a number of items, apart from the ties and scarves which are on sale.

Light weight fabric can be used for children’s clothing, light weight ladies’ and gents’ kilts, ministers’ stoles, greetings cards, etc., and is available at £33 per metre.

Medium weight cloth can be used for making gents’ kilts, ladies’ quality kilts, tartan trews and trousers, upholstery (including cushion covers, curtains and throws) and waistcoats. Medium weight fabric is available at £39 per metre.

To make a gent’s kilt requires 3-5.5 metres of fabric, ladies’ kilts require 1.5-3 metres.
