MEET THE 'McKINNELL' FAMILY
(Click the photo to enlarge)
The Fulwood Methodist part of the family are Anne
(mum), Andrew (son) and Sarah (daughter-in-law). Andrew has been a member at
Fulwood Methodist Church since 1989 after joining the then YPF. It was through
friends at Fulwood High School that Andrew started to come to Fulwood Methodist.
Andrew is coming towards the end of his three years as a church steward, which
has opened up several areas of Fulwood Methodist Church life. He also spends
some quiet Friday evenings helping out at Escape! Having left school Andrew went
to work for the County Council, where he has worked ever since. While putting
this article together he is working for the County Museum Service, although by
the time you read this article he will be working as business manager at a High
School in Chorley.
Anne has been a member at Fulwood Methodist Church for several years now, where she is a communion steward, pastoral visitor and a member of ‘The After Eights’. Anne was a member of Guttridge Methodist Church from being a child to getting married there in 1969, before moving away. Anne enjoyed working as a nursery nurse in Schools and although now retired still seems to keep herself busy.
Sarah has been an official McKinnell since October 1999. Sarah and Andrew met early in 1997 in Leeds at a house party David Grice was co-hosting with one of Sarah’s friends. The rest is, as they say, history. Before moving to Preston Sarah had spent her life in Staffordshire, living in a village called Brewood (between Wolverhampton and Stafford). She left school to work at Lloyds bank before working for South Staffordshire District Council and currently works in the Finance Department at Preston City Council. Sarah helps out in junior church and at Escape on a Friday night.
Other members of the family are spread out across the Preston circuit. There is Stewart (dad) who is a member at Eldon Street Methodist Church along with his father Harry (grandad). Stewart spent all his working life with the Gas Board from Apprentice to Instructor. Though now retired he occasionally helps out, or so he tells the rest of the family, in the circuit office. Stewart met Anne at ‘Glendermott’ Christian Endeavour holiday home. Ann Tucker (grandma) now lives in Oxford House Residential Home and is a member at Ingol Methodist Church. Helen (daughter) who is a member at Ashton Methodist Church has always worked in nursing of one sort or another and is currently studying towards her district nursing qualifications.
Last but not least is Louise (daughter) who now lives and teaches near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, with her teacher husband Craig (well suited). They were married at Fulwood Methodist in August of last year. Louise along with mum and grandma are the only members of the family born in Preston.
Although the family is spread out a little, they still enjoy meeting up. They can sometimes even be seen together, occasionally at Fulwood Methodist Church.
