INTRODUCING THE ROBINSONS
We are the Robinson’s. I’m Kim, my husband is
Steve and we’ve got 2 boys; Luke age 11 and Liam age 5. We live just off The
Blossoms on Longsands Lane in Fulwood. We’ve lived in Fulwood for 10 years;
both Steve and I are Preston born and bred and proud of our roots as a
Lancashire lad and lass. I was brought up in Ribbleton on Acregate Lane and
Steve was brought up in Ingol, before moving with his parents to Ribbleton Lane
where the family ran a pub ‘The Fox and Grapes’. This is where Steve
perfected the skill of playing darts (playing whilst the pub was empty ). Our
paths crossed when I was a barmaid in the pub, he opened a door in my face and
nearly gave me a black eye….. what a start to romance.
The romance grew and on a trip to Australia, Steve proposed on the famous Barrier Reef. We were married on 10th June 1995, at Fulwood Methodist by John Beardsley, the Minister. By this time I had forgiven Steve for the black eye!
I worked as a hairdresser and this is where, during my training, I became friends with Paula Dulley (26 years ago – wow! I can’t believe it was that long ago). Steve worked as a printer on shift work at CCA.
Luke came along in 1999 and then Liam in 2004. It was during my pregnancy that I gained 3 stone (eating for 6 not for 2). I’ve always battled with my weight so I joined Weightwatchers and lost 44 lbs. I was offered the chance to train as a Weightwatcher leader – to help others in their battle losing weight. I accepted the offer and I now run 4 successful meetings in Lea, Leyland, Ribbleton and Preston city centre. Helping people to change their lives and make a difference is a wonderful feeling.
Steve was made redundant after 18 years service with CCA at Christmas 2006, but managed to find another job. He runs the Recycling Centre at Ingol.
We became more active in Fulwood Methodist Church during the move to St Pius when Steve became chief mover of the chairs! (arranging the chairs with precision every Sunday). We have been made to feel so welcome returning to the church where we got married and hope we can extend this welcome to other ‘newbies or returners’. Luke and Liam enjoy their time spent in junior worship with new friends.
We look forward to spending more time with you all during worship on a Sunday and during all the events that are organised through church.
