INTRODUCING THE FENTON FAMILY
It seems odd introducing ourselves to the members of the Church as we have been coming to Fulwood Methodists for the last fourteen years. It was Malcolm Rae, a friend of Ian’s since they were lads, who first suggested we give it a try, and we have been attending ever since. Adam & Richard attended Sunday School from a very early age and have been members of the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. These days, however, both play for local football teams and unfortunately the matches take place on a Sunday. Adam left Archbishop Temple School last summer and is currently at Preston College doing a Management Course in Hospitality & Catering. Richard is in year 10 at Archbishop Temple School and would like to become a mechanic when he leaves.
Ian was an engineer at BAe until he took voluntary redundancy in November 2000. Having worked there since leaving school this was quite a big decision to make, but he has no regrets so far. He had a few months at home catching up on all the little jobs that needed doing, before taking some part-time work at Walton-Le-Dale High School. Since January this year he has been working full time at Lancashire County Council, as a measuring technician, bringing the building plans for Lancashire Schools up to date. He and Alan Smith ran the Cub football team for a number of years, which they enjoyed tremendously. Ian has been an assistant Beaver leader for about eight years and has recently joined the rota for driving the church mini bus.
My name is Lyn and I attend church most Sundays with my mum Marie Harrison, who has been coming with me since the boys were little. My mum & dad live in Shirebank Crescent, Fulwood, and their support over the years has been a tremendous help to us. Having brought five children of their own up, they are now actively involved with their eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Before they retired my father Geoff worked in advertising and was a magistrate for twenty six years, while my mum worked for many years in the maternity departments at both the Preston Royal Infirmary and Sharoe Green Hospital.
I have worked for Marie Curie Cancer Care for the last four years and became the Community Fundraising Manager for Lancashire last April. My role is to raise the money needed to provide Marie Curie Nurses free of charge to patients, thus enabling them to stay at home in the latter stages of cancer. To do this I organise fundraising events, which has led to me becoming a member of the Church Fundraising Group. As you will know the group have been very busy since the launch of Building Together and we are very grateful to everyone who has supported us in the last few months.
Over the last fourteen years Fulwood Methodist Church has given us as a family, new friends, new interests, and a sense of belonging. So all that remains is for me to say is a big thank you to Malcolm, for inviting us along all those years ago.
