HIS UNFAILING PRESENCE

Another year I enter

Its history unknown;

Oh, how my feet would tremble

To tread its paths alone!

But I have heard a whisper,

I know I shall be blest;

"My presence shall go with thee,

And I will give thee rest."

What will the New Year bring me?

I may not, must not know;

Will it be love and rapture,

Or loneliness and woe?

Hush! Hush! I hear his whisper;

I surely shall be blest;

"My presence shall go with thee,

And I will give thee rest."

AN HONEST PRAYER AT CHRISTMAS

God, I wish to forget the day that you were born.

Why couldn’t you just stay in your Heaven and leave me with my understanding?

Now you are part of me, which stops me being who I want to be.

It would have been much simpler if you had not interfered.

Today is ours Let’s live it

And love is strong Let’s give it

A song can help Let’s sing it

And peace is dear Lets bring it

The past is gone Don’t rue it

Our work is here Let’s do it

The world is wrong Let’s right it

If evil comes Let’s fight it

The road is rough Let’s smooth it

The future’s vast Don’t fear it

Is faith asleep? Let’s wake it

Today is free Let’s take it

CHILL

Coming from the window, it seems very light

Because the ground outside is covered all in white.

In the air above snowflakes swirl and hover,

Then descend to augment the white cover.

An east wind sighs through the bare-branched trees,

Everywhere it glitters, indicating a freeze.

The snowflakes begin to fall much quicker –

The white cover on the ground rapidly gets thicker.

Turn  the heating up to its fullest height;

Don the warmest clothes, wrapping them round tight

To keep out the cold of the snow and the ice.

So thank the Lord once and thank the Lord twice.

The object of a new year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul.

Is the reason why MPs try so hard to get re-elected because they would hate to have to make a living under the laws they’ve passed?
